Verde Valley School seeks a skilled and enthusiastic high school Visual Arts teacher to teach Visual Arts to students in grades 9-12 with a range of ability levels and experience with art. Topics include but are not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, design, sculpture, and printing. The Visual Arts position requires experience designing curriculum, differentiating instruction, and using educational technology. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, energetic educator committed to the belief that the arts are a vital part of a well-rounded education, and a belief that all students can benefit from a foundation in the Visual Arts.
In addition, as a member of the VVS faculty, the Visual Arts teacher will be expected to participate in VVS community through service in the residential program (dorm parenting, weeknight duty, weekend duty), advising and co-curricular programs (leading a field expedition, coaching an afternoon activity, and leading a project period course).
The ideal candidate is someone who loves engaging adolescents of all abilities in the study of Visual Arts and is ready to fully immerse in all facets of boarding school life on our rustic desert campus.
Preference is given to candidates who have:
Experience teaching high school Visual Arts and Art History
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience working in a residential setting
Experience and enthusiasm for living and teaching in diverse communities
Experience teaching non-native English speakers
Experience coaching and/or leading outdoor activities
This position begins in August 2021.
