The Lower School at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is seeking an experienced and creative Prekindergarten Teacher to work in collaboration with two co-teachers to plan and implement a play-based and child-centered curriculum. The Prekindergarten Teacher is jointly responsible for curriculum design and implementation, parent and staff communications, and classroom supervision. Strong applicants will have a background in early childhood education, a demonstrated understanding of early child development, and commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive school community. Experience working in a co-teaching environment and minimum of two years of teaching experience is preferred. The Prekindergarten Teacher reports to the Co-Head of the Lower School. This is a salaried, benefits-eligible, full-time position for the 2021-22 school year beginning August 16, 2021.

Classroom Responsibilities:

• Supports and sustains a classroom culture that is play-based, child-centered, and aligned with the mission and values of the school
• Promotes and advance  the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical well being of the students in the classroom.
• Teaches major subject areas, including language arts, mathematics, social studies, and social-emotional learning lessons in a homeroom-based setting
• Prepares course objectives, outlines, and lesson plans for the appropriate plan of study, following curriculum guideline and school requirements
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their social-emotional development and academic success through a defined course of study
• Values and incorporates diverse perspectives and representation in daily interactions and within the curriculum.
• Differentiates methods of instruction to address individual student learning profiles
• Shares equal responsibility with teaching partners in the areas of classroom design, classroom management, lesson design, lesson planning, activities, assessments, report writing, data gathering, and communication with families
• Participates in continuous curriculum evaluation and collaborate with grade-level co-teachers and special subject teachers in the areas of visual and performing arts, sciences, design, and technology to extend and enrich the curriculum
• Collaborates in the review and evaluation of the grade level curriculum to ensure the curriculum aligns with the progression of Lower School skills in all subjects taught
• Collaborates with faculty members, school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives
• Assesses student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration
• Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning classroom 

• Supervise and care for preschool students during Morning Care arrival from 7:45-8:30 am daily

• Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve student achievement

• Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Lower School
