Germantown Friends School is seeking a full-time music educator to teach 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-grade general music. The successful candidate has singing and piano skills, possibly guitar-accompaniment skills, has experience as an elementary general-music teacher, and enjoys working with Lower School students. Orff or Dalcroze training is desirable. The candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and other music teachers, especially the teachers of lower elementary grades. A Bachelor of Music in Education is preferred. Additionally, they will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching practice and in building relationships with all members of our community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Teach general music to Grades 3-5, including vocal music, movement, Orff instruments and various other musical instruments, recorders, theory, and listening skills.
Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
Plan, rehearse, and direct students in musical programs for school and community (e.g. a winter performance, collaborative class projects).
Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Develop and refine music curriculum based on researched standards of creating, performing, and responding.
Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the overall group performance ensuring every student's participation.
Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
Partner with the classroom teachers and other music teachers to provide musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
Support the overall Lower School program and care of the students by assisting in arrival, dismissal, and student supervision as needed
Participate in Student Support Team meetings weekly, collaborating to ensure continued attention to the changing needs of individual students and accountability in use of effective
