Friends Select School is searching for a Middle School Social Studies teacher. The position includes sections of 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes that focus on Human Geography.  This class explores themes of how people interact with the environment and each other in the past and present. Additionally, the Human Geography curriculum sees the city as an extension of the classroom by cultivating relationships with city institutions, inviting speakers, and organizing field trips to numerous places in Philadelphia. The curriculum also includes supporting student growth in Friends Select Middle School's core academic skills, including research, writing, note-taking, discussion, presentation, and studying.

Applicants should be familiar with and have experience creating student centered activities and projects that support students in developing their critical thinking and creative thinking skills. Other duties and responsibilities include student advising, club and committee involvement, and fulfillment of general faculty duties. 

The ideal candidate will:

• have three to five years of teaching experience in a middle school setting
• have experience teaching humanities courses
• be eager to work in a highly personalized environment
• be energized by the strengths and challenges of working with early adolescent learners
• have the ability to differentiate instruction for all levels of learners
• be committed to social justice pedagogically and curricularly 
• have experience and comfort with online learning tools
• have a bachelor’s degree, with additional coursework preferred
