Friends Select School is searching for a Middle School Social Studies teacher. The position includes sections of 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes that focus on Human Geography. This class explores themes of how people interact with the environment and each other in the past and present. Additionally, the Human Geography curriculum sees the city as an extension of the classroom by cultivating relationships with city institutions, inviting speakers, and organizing field trips to numerous places in Philadelphia. The curriculum also includes supporting student growth in Friends Select Middle School's core academic skills, including research, writing, note-taking, discussion, presentation, and studying. Friends Select is committed to being an anti-racist school and building a curriculum that reflects our Quaker values of respect, diversity, and the peaceful resolution of conflict. Applicants should be familiar with and have experience creating student centered activities and projects that support students in developing their critical thinking and creative thinking skills.
