The Baldwin School, a PK-12 independent girl’s school in Bryn Mawr, Pa seeks an inspiring, enthusiastic and engaging Physical Education teacher for the 2021-2022 academic year. This position requires a strong background in physical education as well as coaching experience at the middle and/or high school level. Of equal importance is a working understanding of how girls learn, listen and lead. The position includes the opportunity to teach Physical Education and Aquatics in grades PK-12 and coach two seasons of middle or high school level competitive sports, and may include the opportunity to team teach health classes. Additionally, this teacher will fulfill the duties of an Upper or Middle School Faculty member, including participation in meetings and serving as a student advisor. All candidates should have exceptional communication skills and a willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment. The Health and Physical Education teacher will report to the Chair of the Physical Education Department and the Director of Athletic. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Teaches content and skills in physical education and health/wellness to students across all three divisions of the school.
Provides appropriate safety instruction and supervision at all times.
Is student-centered in her/his teaching in support of the academic, social and emotional well being of every student.
Develops and maintains long range and daily instructional plans for each course using a variety of teaching and assessment tools and strategies.
Integrates technology seamlessly into teaching strategies and practices.
Develops lessons that promote problem solving, creative thinking, collaboration and effective communication skills while encouraging risk-taking in learning and modeling life-long learning.
Actively involves students through group work, project-based learning, exploration, questioning, discussion, and other cooperative teaching techniques.
Maintains professional growth and competence through active participation in school and self-selected professional development opportunities.
Identifies student needs, and partners with other professional staff members in supporting all aspects of student life.
Communicates with parents and Division Directors on students’ progress.
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities/clubs and participates in faculty committees.
Acts as a homeroom teacher and advisor for Middle or Upper School students.
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in physical education is required.
Three years teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of student-athletes.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills.
