Responsibilities and Competencies 

The master teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to Middle School by being able to teach effectively and passionately. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:

• Demonstrating a passion for language arts and history and ability to  teach these subjects in an integrated humanities course
• Teaching 5 classes; willingness to teach all levels in Middle School (6-8)
• Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice; using  a variety of resources, including fiction and non-fiction texts, primary and secondary sources, and various genres of literature
• Teaching effective writing and research skills 
• Assessing student reading comprehension and vocabulary skills and meeting needs through the use of differentiated instruction
• Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
• Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners 
• Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ability to give and receive feedback, and willingness to become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive community
• Working with grade-level colleagues to plan and coordinate all content, activities, and grading 
• Advising 12-14 students; meeting with parents of advisees; and facilitating advisory curriculum including  “Lead From Here” 
• Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the leadership team
• Demonstrating effective technology skills in the classroom and through our learning management system
• Participating in other aspects of the School community. Coaching a sport is highly desirable.
