Humanities Teacher - Middle School
Peoria Academy
Peoria Academy, an independent, coeducational, progressive PK-8 school founded in 2000 in Peoria Illinois, seeks a middle school humanities teacher to begin August 15, 2021. Peoria Academy has entered into candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate World School and will be implementing the Primary Years Programme in PK-5 and the Middle Years Programme in grades 6-8. The Humanities Teacher will have the opportunity to be involved in developing our approach to curriculum and instruction during an exciting and dynamic time in Peoria Academy’s history. Peoria is a vibrant, small city in central Illinois. Located about 2.5 hours from Chicago, Peoria is home to Caterpillar, the University of Illinois Medical School, and Bradley University. Offering a family-friendly lifestyle and low cost of living, Peoria is a great place to raise a family and make a home. Peoria Academy’s students join us from many towns and cities in the Peoria region and represent remarkable domestic and international diversity, with 13 different languages spoken in our students’ homes. The humanities teacher takes an interdisciplinary approach to integrating English and social studies. The humanities teacher works in close collaboration with other faculty and is responsible for delivering a strong program of instruction to students in the middle school. The humanities teacher collaborates with Peoria Academy’s faculty and staff, ensuring that humanities instruction is of high quality, and seeks opportunities to plan with colleagues in other disciplines. In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to participate in the life of an independent school, exhibit a growth mindset, actively seek to collaborate, integrate technology into instruction, and serve as positive ambassadors for Peoria Academy and its students.
