Job Summary
Our teachers are passionate to promote intellectual and emotional development of our students. Lead teachers combine the ability to inspire and educate with an inquiry-based approach to instruction that makes learning relevant for students. THS employs exceptional teachers who bring their passions, identities, curiosities, and expertise into the classroom each day. Our Fourth Grade Lead Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in a self-contained classroom. The International Baccalaureate program provides the framework for transdisciplinary units of inquiry. We complement this framework with Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Workshop and the Bridges Math programs. Our classrooms are staffed with a lead teacher and a full-time associate teacher. Collaboration and effective communication are essential elements of this team approach.
Our academic program is balanced with Art, Music, Mandarin, Spanish, and Physical Education. Each of these classes is taught by a specialty teacher.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Inspire students through inquiry practice to develop a lifelong love for learning
Develop unit plans and daily lesson plans that are grounded in essential questions and designed for the transfer of learning through a project-based approach. Knowledge of Understanding by Design preferred
Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum to ensure students are appropriately supported and challenged
Integrate meaningful field experiences and service-learning projects
Regularly collaborate with our IB coordinator to craft integrated curricula
Establish and nurture positive, trusting relationships with parents and family members
Commit to continued professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers
Document, reflect, and share your pedagogy and insights with colleagues, visiting educators, and the broader community
Lead parent conferences two times per year; prepare written report card comments two times per year
Embrace additional duties with enthusiasm
Preferred Characteristics/Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree Preferred
3-5 years of teaching experience
Demonstrated success in inquiry-based instruction or project-based learning preferred
A deep commitment to collaboration, teaching, and learning pedagogies and approaches, including - but not limited to - culturally responsive teaching, inclusion, anti-bias education, restorative practices, and differentiation
Experience teaching Reading and Writing Workshop
Demonstrated understanding of child development and the role of Social/Emotional learning in building positive, educational environments
Experience with International Baccalaureate a plus
