| The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. We are seeking a 4th Grade Teacher and House Advisor for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive elementary education and differentiation. We seek teachers who are enthusiastic about working collaboratively to improve pedagogy and to design innovative curriculum that addresses the whole child. The 4th grade teacher is responsible for instruction and curriculum development of social studies and language arts teaching and learning. Curricular content includes a year-long study of European and Chinese immigration, and the Transatlantic Slave Trade; literary studies and analysis; and the writing process, which incorporates links to literature and social studies explorations. The 4th grade team strives to select texts and documents that reflect the diversity of our world. Additionally, 4th grade teachers also co-instruct math classes with a math teacher in a heterogenous, differentiated math classroom setting. Full-time teachers also serve as House Advisors, working with a group of 4th graders as the primary point of contact for the students and parents. House Advisors collaborate as a 4th grade team to develop House curriculum on grade-specific topics and community building programs. House lessons integrate social-emotional learning, health and wellness activities, digital communication and citizenship. A Master’s degree in education or teaching strongly preferred, in addition to lead teaching experience.
