The inaugural Director of Diversity and Inclusion will lead, guide and strategically develop the implementation of programs and events that promote inclusion and diversity within Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC). This person will create new programs and practices that enhance the sense of belonging and respect felt by all members of our community. The Director of Diversity and Inclusion will provide strategic advice and counsel to the Head of School and will serve on the School Leadership Team. This leader will report directly to the Head of School.

The position requires a broad range of diversity, inclusion and project management experience. Competencies should include strong communication skills, active listening, empathy, strategic analysis and an ability to influence, motivate and inspire. This person must be able to excel as a decisive leader who can challenge people to identify their role in creating a more inclusive school community.

Position Duties (included, but are not limited to)

• Develop school-wide diversity, equity and inclusion strategies in order to help the School fulfill its mission
• Coordinate and support efforts to improve inclusion, diversity, and equity services and programs related to strategic planning, professional development and student learning by providing subject matter expertise and creating innovative solutions 
• Guide students in inclusion programming and help to coordinate student affinity work
• Work with the Admissions Office to recruit, welcome and retain students from diverse backgrounds
• Work with division heads and department chairs to ensure curriculum and programming reflect the diversity of our community and world
• Provide support to parents of diverse backgrounds so that they feel welcome and included
• Review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder CHC’s diversity and inclusion goals
• Act as a liaison between the School and the larger community in order to increase outreach and partnership opportunities
