Purpose of Position: The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that support Presentation’s mission, vision, and annual DEI action plan. The director will lead the development of a vision and effective strategy that champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive school community and environment. Reports to: Principal Key Responsibilities: - Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and HR Director to create, implement, and monitor initiatives designed to ensure equitable treatment of students, faculty, and staff and promote the school community as a place of inclusion, equity, and multiculturalism.
- Develop and administer professional development for school leadership, faculty/staff, parents, volunteers, and students to promote cultural understanding and a climate of equity and inclusion.
- Serve as a resource for faculty/staff on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Work closely with student affinity group moderators and student leaders to ensure their successful development, active leadership in the school community, and the development of opportunities for collaboration within and between these groups.
- Conduct an assessment of Presentation’s inclusivity and multiculturalism through community engagement and the NAIS Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism (AIM), present findings to the leadership team, and recommend policy and procedural changes to inform Presentation’s annual DEI action plan.
- Chair meetings of Presentation’s DEI Team and support the DEI Team in the completion of annual action plan items.
- Collaborate with the Administration and Advancement department to create and facilitate BIPOC engagement and support initiatives with parents and alumnae.
- Consults, as needed, on complaints related to discrimination and harassment complaints filed by students with the Director of Wellness and Prevention, Dean, and Administration.
- Lead a faculty/staff committee to develop and lead an annual Community Development Week to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion and provide formation opportunities to students, parents, and faculty/staff.
- Maintain specific support structures and systems, such as SEED groups, a BIPOC group for faculty/staff, and a monthly student diversity group, to carry out the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Offer support and coaching to faculty, staff, and administrators on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Pursue professional development opportunities; attend conferences and professional meetings in order to remain current with diversity and inclusion issues that may affect the school.
- Develop and maintain a network with other DEI coordinators and external cultural resource organizations.
