Interested parties are invited to apply for the Superintendent position at Sonora Elementary School District. SESD is a one-school elementary district located in Tuolumne County, serving about 722 students in grades TK through eighth grade. Student demographics include 74% Caucasian, 15% Latino, 4.2% multiple ethnicities, 2.2% Asian, 2.1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 1.5% Filipino. The student population encompasses 46.8% free/reduced lunch and 5.8% English language learners. SESD services its students with 41 certificated staff, 43 classified staff and 3 administrators (superintendent, principal and assistant principal).
SESD is committed to challenging all students to reach their full potential by encouraging natural curiosity and a love of learning, promoting character development that emphasizes responsibility, self-discipline, compassion, honesty, integrity and respect, and providing students with a balanced educational program, which includes fine arts, technology and physical fitness.
Staff strives to foster parental involvement to maximize student success. Support Sonora School (SSS) is the District's parent teacher organization that is very active on campus as a support to teachers and programs. SSS sponsors special activities and programs for children, and fundraises for equipment, field trips and other needs. SESD also has a School Site Council for the open exchange of ideas between school staff and the community. Charged with developing the school site instructional plan and evaluating the school program annualy, elected members of the School Site Council include parents, teachers and support staff.
Additionally, SESD works to ensure that staff has multiple opportunities for professional growth and development.
