POSITION PURPOSE: Coordinates, directs and oversees the District’s instructional program and activities, including curriculum and the administration of the District’s schools.
SALARY GRADE: Contract – 220 Days
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the leadership of the Instructional Services Division (IS), which includes the management and supervision of all educational programs and related services of the district. Integral to that work, the Assistant Superintendent is also responsible for promoting the district’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), supporting the work within other district departments to promote fiscally sound budget approaches, supporting the diverse work within student services, and the ability to recommend policies updates, implement processes to update curricular needs of the district, and work successfully with our District Advisory Council (DAC) and other teacher, student, and parent committees.
NATURE AND SCOPE: The Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, is assigned broad authority and responsibility with regard to (1) the educational programs and related services, (2) curriculum supervision and development and (3) selection, transfer, assignment, supervision and evaluation of division staff. Responsibility for the administration and supervision of the following functions and programs will include:
Direct and evaluate the work of the Director, High Schools and Assessment, the Director, Middle Schools and Professional Learning, and the Director, Elementary Education.
Provide leadership and participate in programs and activities that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Leadership in the management of the district's instructional programs and services which includes program planning, development, implementation, supervision, evaluation and improvement.
Work with the District Advisory Council (DAC) and its Executive Board to plan, coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings.
Coordination of LCAP and budget activities with other divisions, including Business Services, Student Services and Human Resources Departments.
Implements a standards-based instructional program.
Leadership and comprehensive services delivery to principals and their staff.
Management of the district's education programs and activities to insure compliance with federal, state and district policies, regulations, and/or laws
Selection and evaluation of instructional materials and textbooks.
Insures TK-12 instructional and support services program articulation.
Development and implementation of programs in career and vocational education.
Development and operation of programs for adult, alternative and continuing education.
Leadership in identifying and serving disadvantaged students, as well as students with special education needs.
Leadership and support in maintaining a positive school climate and a safe learning environment in all CVUSD Schools.
Preparation of required and appropriate state and federal reports concerning the educational programs.
Maintains professional competence through participation in professional learning activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
Contributes to the profession through membership and active participation in school administrator associations and professional development activities on a county, state and national level.
Make recommendations and presentations to the Board of Education or cabinet regarding instructional services activities and concerns.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: California Administrative Services Credential. Advanced training and successful experience in standards based curriculum, instructional strategies, and student services and evaluation of programs. TK-12 grades teaching experience preferred. Five years of progressively responsible experience in school district administration. Excellent communication skills and collaborative leadership style.
