JOB SUMMARY: Bennett Day School Assistant Teachers provide operational and classroom support to lead teachers. Their duties include supporting classroom activities, supervising children, completing classroom administrative work, and reporting to lead teachers. Bennett Day School Faculty members embrace innovation, are adept at working with teams, open to new ideas and demonstrate collaboration and creativity in their daily work.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORT TO: Lead Teacher
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist the lead teacher in planning and supporting students’ assignments and activities. - Participate by assisting with tasks like leading activities, restocking supplies, and basic cleaning of the classroom. - Responsible for overseeing students throughout non-classroom times including lunch, extra activities and special programs. - Supervise grade level AfterCare from 2:45-4:30 M,T, TH, F, and 12:45-4:30 W - Help monitor the class schedule in coordination with the Lead Teacher. - Promote a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment to children. - Ensure students receive individual assistance in small groups to understand concepts as needed. - Promote a safe and healthy school day and afterschool classroom environment. - Assess and monitor each student's progress while helping the ones who need extra attention. - Resolve issues in collaboration with the lead teacher. - Grade-level curriculum development support as requested by the Lead Teacher - Track student performance and keep the lead teacher informed. - Attend all learning and development classes, faculty meetings and other meetings as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: - Support and assistance of students within the classroom o In accordance with CDC and IDPH regulations for COVID-19 safety measures, all classrooms will be filled at a 35 sq ft per person capacity EC/IS Classrooms will have one lead teacher and one assistant teacher - Assistant teachers will have a 40-hour work week between a combination of classroom and auxiliary programs. - Professional Development: Monday 3:30-4:30 or Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30; beginning and end of year PD - Participation in self-evaluation and reflection process; individual and team meetings with Lead Teacher o Attend once a trimester – scheduled feedback meetings with Lead Teacher - Participation in Home Visits and Curriculum Night - Participation in arrival/dismissal and/or lunch/recess duties as assigned (TBD) - Hours: 8:00-4:30
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES: - Bachelor’s degree required, in education or related field preferred - Collaboration and excellent communication with team members - Ability to learn and use apps, websites, and databases for advanced use.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Job includes sitting (during planning and reporting) for long periods of time and standing for long periods of time (during observations and training). - Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, run, sit on the floor, and stand up without assistance. - Must be able to lift 30 pounds. - Required immunizations to prevent communicable diseases
