The Haverford School is seeking a lower school (elementary school) visual art teacher and art integration specialist. Preferred candidates will have at least two years of teaching experience. They are a happy, enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for art-making and for teaching that leverages the creative process to create powerful learning experiences within the art studio and across disciplines. In particular, we seek a candidate with an academic and/or professional background in the visual arts, or art education and/or teaching experience related to traditional and contemporary art-making. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with and/or a vision for partnering with classroom teachers in the development of interdisciplinary, hands-on, project-based learning experiences. Finally, the candidate will have the capacity to contribute to the life of the School in co-curricular areas, especially coaching and advising students.
Please note this job is listed as a one-year job, but the hope is that the art integration aspect will allow it to become long-term.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching elementary-aged students in groups of up to 18 students per section.
Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and other coursework.
Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students
Partnering with and coaching classroom teachers in the development of project-based, learning experiences that enhance current lessons, and lead to even more powerful and durable learning.
Assisting in the display of student artworks in school exhibition spaces.
Managing an art studio and sourcing the necessary materials and tools.
Planning and coordination of curriculum with the division head, department head, other art instructors, and grade-level classroom teachers.
Participate in school evaluation and professional development programs
Participate in some infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activities. Other duties, as assigned.
Visual Art Teaching experience desirable.
Skills necessary: traditional and contemporary artmaking methods
Working knowledge of contemporary computer and multimedia technology to include experience with PC and Macintosh platforms and digital photography and video camera operations such that student work can be documented and instructional resources can be produced.
Experience and facility for working with word processing, presentation software, and such image editing and creation software as Photoshop and Illustrator.
Experience with Google Suite products, Canvas (or a similar learning management system), and SeeSaw.
Demonstrable track record of collaborating with classroom teachers to create cross-curricular/interdisciplinary units of study and projects.
