McDonogh School is seeking an energetic, creative, and caring art teacher for August 2021.
Expresses a clear interest in becoming an active member of the McDonogh community
Creates a culturally responsive classroom that promotes a love of art and a welcoming, purposeful learning environment
Instructs students in a creative curriculum that would include a variety of two- and three-dimensional art mediums
Designs art-related field trips and helps organize the annual Lower School art show
Actively participates in professional development in order to remain current with best practices in education and teaching visual art and design
Maintains a personal practice and portfolio that can be utilized and harnessed in the classroom
Communicates regularly and effectively with parents in proactive and professional ways through websites, email, phone calls, in-person conversations, bi-annual progress reports, etc.
Demonstrates a mindset of customer service, flexibility, and responsiveness; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage special projects and programs
Works collaboratively with one other art teacher in the Lower School department, as well as division colleagues and administrators
Manages classroom administration and record-keeping; plus, keeps an inventory of art materials and manages a budget effectively
Performs non-teaching duties in order to support and assist students throughout the day
Demonstrates professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in an elementary school setting. Formal training and qualifications in elementary education and in visual art. Master's Degree preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a highly motivated and dedicated team
Experience successfully working within a culturally diverse student body, faculty, and community
Knowledge and experience of educational research on best practices
Accomplished with basic office and educational equipment (computers, tablets, smartphones, scanners, Smartboards, interactive boards, document cameras, projectors, copiers, printers, etc.)

Experience with a variety of productivity and collaboration tools including Google and Microsoft app suites. Proficiency using a Learning Management System such as Canvas and Seesaw
Must be able to comply with background checks, including finger prints, as required by the agency and/or state regulations.
Must have a positive attitude and a strong desire to support students and colleagues outside of the job description
