For the 2021-22 school year, Media-Providence Friends School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for grades four through eight. We seek teachers who are skilled communicators with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. Excited to work with children and adolescents, our teachers are knowledgeable about developmental needs.
This is a 10 month position beginning September 1, 2021 which reports directly to the assistant head and head of school.
Deliver an outstanding Spanish education program that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for students from grades 4 through 8.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Teaching Spanish literacy, cultural, and related skills aligned with the school’s curriculum for students in the grade to which she/he is assigned;
Assessing students’ strengths and challenges to inform content, resource, instructional, and support decisions;
Developing lesson plans and instructional materials, and providing individualized, small, and whole class instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
Applying a variety of instructional strategies, including inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, and experiential to achieve studentship and citizenship goals;
Translating lesson plans into learning experiences that leverage the strengths of the students and support areas of challenge, individually and as a group, so that students maximize their academic and social/emotional potential and achievement;
Developing and maintaining a close partnership with parents to ensure student academic and social/emotional progress;
Working collaboratively with colleagues to maintain quality, consistency, and integration of curriculum;
Communicating pedagogy, curriculum, and student progress to students, parents, and administrators;
Carrying out required administrative responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
Position includes the possibility of coordinating and chaperoning the annual 8th grade capstone trip to Costa Rica.
Teachers should have appropriate education and experience for their desired teaching position. College and Graduate work are looked on favorably when combined with a demonstrated motivation and joy for teaching children. Experience teaching and leading in schools, youth organizations, and co-curricular spaces is preferred.
