Purpose: A Vail Mountain School Teacher is responsible for carrying out the mission of VMS through curriculum development, classroom teaching, assessment, differentiation, classroom management, outdoor education, character development and building rapport with students in and out of the classroom. Our teachers support the mission and philosophy of the school. They value the community and culture of Vail Mountain School and strive to make our school a better place. The hallmark of our faculty is their participation in the school outside of their classroom. They volunteer for activities and are active in the community. Our teachers understand that knowing their students is a prerequisite to becoming a great teacher.
What You Will Do:
Teach Lower School music curriculum, develop lesson plans and map curriculum.
Collaborate with teachers in lower, middle, and upper school, skillfully navigating the needs of all schools.
Produce high quality musical productions for lower school three times per year.
Provide general supervision of students at all times in the building (including lunch and recess)
Communicate in a timely and professional manner with students, parents and colleagues
Attend related meetings which may occur outside of the school day
Assist with afternoon and evening programs as requested
Participate in Board related events, as requested
Participate in orientation, field trips, hut trips, student activities, and Ski Fridays
Demonstrate knowledge of students and how they learn, and implements new teaching models to match student needs
Participate in peer review through observation and coaching following the VMS professional growth plan
Teach students in both the lower (k-5) and middle (6-8) school.
Advocate for and ensure that diversity, inclusion, and social justice permeates the school's programs and drives its culture.

Excited to work in the performing art department as a member of a team to cover all performances and school needs.
Ready to attend related meetings and assist with afternoon/evening programs; some of which may occur outside of the school day

Deeply knowledgeable in the subject area; displaying dedication, passion, inspiration, the ability to individualize learning, and the capacity to help all students succeed.
Committed to pursuing professional development and are life-long learners.
Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university required; advanced degree preferred
Proficiency in designing effective lessons, teaching diverse learning styles and managing elementary school age students
