For the 2021-2022 academic year, the Pace Academy Fine Arts Department is looking for an enthusiastic music educator to continue the success of an established elementary string orchestra program that feeds directly into the Middle and Upper School ensembles. The position of Lower School Orchestra Teacher is a full-time faculty position.

The ideal candidate is culturally competent and responsive, intuitive, exhibits good judgment, possesses excellent communication skills and is capable of guiding students effectively. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. He/she/they should possess a wealth of patience, energy and creativity to hold the attention of the class.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaches beginning string orchestra ensembles in the fourth and fifth grades, as well as sixth-grade beginning string players
Extends opportunities to third-grade students to continue developing strings programming
Prepares curriculum for beginning string orchestra classes that include fundamentals, technique and reading music
Assists and/or leads sectional work with all other levels of string orchestras in the Middle and Upper Schools, where the schedule allows
Schedules and organizes up to three performances per school year as well as assists with Middle and Upper School performances
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher-training workshops
Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture
Attends training, professional development and education in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion
Models and reinforces the Lower School Code of Conduct
Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner
Attends parent gatherings and assists with school-sponsored trips
Attends faculty meetings, grade-level parent gatherings, admissions testing, Sunday Sundae, Open House and Graduation
Creates and administers assessments
Reports student progress through regularly scheduled progress reports
Leads parent-teacher conferences
Other duties may be assigned
Bachelor’s degree in music or related field
Background and mastery in violin, viola, cello or string bass, and ability to teach the aforementioned instruments in a group setting
Minimum two years teaching children in grades four through six
Flexibility, positive attitude and a strong desire to work with children
Belief in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of the school so as to foster a sense of belonging
Must be able to work on-campus for in-person learning
Must have a passion for social-emotional learning as well as a diversity, equity and inclusion focus
