The art teacher is a member of the school’s art department and reports to the two division heads. This 10-month position is responsible for working with faculty and staff in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate will have a strongbackground in the visual arts and be skilled in teaching students to work with a variety of two and three-dimensional materials. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member who is self-directed, well-organized; has a good sense of humor; a love of the visual arts; and a passion for teaching the visual arts to elementary and middle school-aged children.
Roles & Responsibilities
Teach multiple sections of art in Kindergarten through Grade 8, including an Upper Division elective course
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, weekly school duties, and activities
Collaborate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority of curricular work and curriculum development
Demonstrate deep understanding of the relationship between curriculum, subject matter, and child development
Participate in weekly department meetings
Implement creative and innovative curriculum and instruction
Work in partnership with students and their families
Participate fully in ongoing professional development
Bachelor’s Degree required
Master’s Degree preferred
3-5 years of teaching required
Elementary and middle school teaching experience preferred
Experience with drawing, painting, and sculpture and rudimentary woodworking skills desirable
Strong interpersonal skills with students and adults - patience, flexibility and empathy
Strong communication skills - written and oral
