Portland Public Schools is seeking a talented school leader with experience of leading an increasingly diverse school, Jefferson High Schoo-Middle College for Advanced Studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership practices that support collaboration, data-driven decision making, family and community engagement, innovation, and teamwork oriented approaches, with an racial equity and equality focused lens. The successful candidate will demonstrate an awareness of the intersectional identities multilingual learners possess and the historical inequities they have experienced. Jefferson High School - Middle College for Advanced Studies sits in the Albina District, the heart of the Black community in Portland. Our students, staff and community value our school’s history and its role in supporting students of color for generations. We are a focus option school serving over 620 students from our historical catchment as well as from across the district. Just under 50% of our students identify as Black, roughly 30% as white and 20% as Lantinx. As a Middle College all students who attend Jefferson are expected to complete college coursework before graduation. Jefferson was included on the successful 2020 School Improvement Bond last November and will soon begin the master planning process.
Jefferson staff help students succeed through intentional collaboration and partnerships. We work closely with two culturally specific organizations, Self Enhancement, Inc. and Latino Network, who provide wrap around support for our students including in-school mentors, as well as after school and summer enrichment programs. Staff focus on anti-racist instruction and developing critical curriculum that examines issues from multiple perspectives and affirms the rich and varied experiences of Black, Latino and Indigenous people. We partner with Portland Community College (PCC) and Portland State University to provide students with college experiences through dual credit courses at Jefferson and courses on the PCC campus.

Hold all accountable with compassion
Increase learning outcomes for students using Professional Learning Teams and work with higher education partners to align culturally responsive pedagogical practices
Engage with both the staff and community to sustain and expand partnerships, supports and resources for families and students
Collaborate with teams to set goals and measure progress, model continuous learning and improvement and develop school culture for staff and students
Maintain the district’s strategic plans in alignment with the PPS reImagined Vision
Have demonstrable commitment to racial equity and social justice goals as they align with achieving the PPS Racial Educational Equity Policy Goals
This position is classified as Principal K-12, on the Licensed (Certified)Administrator Salary Schedule (for 233 days) FLSA Exempt.
A State of Oregon issued Administrative License is required at the time of appointment
A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience and three (3) years of successful school principal or assistant leadership experience in an educational setting with demonstrated results in improving the academic performance of students
Experience working in a richly diverse school community and environment and bilingual (Spanish) or multilingual skillsare preferred
Ability to prioritize students at the center of decision making with a lens towards racial equity and social justice
