Lower School Music Teacher PT/FT 2021-2022 School Year
The Lab School of Washington is an independent school for students with learning differences that is known for its highly respected arts-integrated curriculum. The school is seeking a dynamic, talented individual to teach music classes five days a week to students in 1st - 6th grades. The music teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that supports the development of students’ appreciation and understanding of music. The teacher will teach techniques of vocal and instrumental music expression, discover and develop students’ abilities and talents in the field of music, and develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music. This individual will be joining a vibrant arts faculty that encourages and participates in collaborations with all aspects of school community programming.
Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in music, hold a teaching certificate in the District of Columbia, or be certification-eligible. Experience working with students with learning differences is ideal. Candidate should have performance experience and musical skill competency, including the ability to sing and play multiple instruments. Teach 1st through 6th grade music classes in an engaging, developmentally appropriate way.
Create an inclusive classroom environment and develop meaningful relationships with all students.
Support students’ social-emotional and academic development by communicating regularly with classroom teachers.
Develop and support a curriculum that provides a balanced approach to music education, including singing, playing instrumental music, creative movement, and performance.
Adjust and adapt curriculum based on students’ needs.
Conduct ongoing evaluation of student progress; communicate progress with parents via conferences and written reports
Plan, rehearse, and direct students in school performances.
Work in collaboration with other team members to support student needs and promote cross-curricular collaboration when possible.
Participate in other school-wide activities throughout the year, including division and faculty/staff meetings, and other events.
