Friends Seminary is an independent Quaker school educating students in grades K-12 in New York City since 1786. The Upper School seeks an English teacher for a full time position. In addition to teaching four Upper School sections (grades 9-12), this teacher will also serve as an advisor in the high school. The Upper School English program at Friends Seminary builds foundations in grammar, literary structures, and skills of close reading, and analytic writing.
Required Experience The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Curiosity, creativity, and flexibility in pedagogical approach
Excellent writing skills
Experience with reading a variety of literary texts
Ability to listen to, respond effectively to, and engage a diverse body of students
Commitment to collaborating with other educators, both in the English and other departments
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in curriculum, pedagogy, classroom culture, and professional development
Comfort with educational technologies, such as learning management systems, student information systems, and Google Docs
Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Preferred
