Ventana’s collaborative model necessitates that teachers contribute fully and equally to the development of our Reggio-inspired curriculum and approach. Observations, instruction, implementation of Inquiry Work, and documentation are essential to the satisfactory performance of this job and are planned collaboratively. All Ventana teachers attend to the social/emotional needs of a diverse school-age population and will collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and administrators. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction provides coaching and direction to all teachers.
Associate teachers are expected to maintain a democratic, creative environment in which meaningful learning and personal growth are fostered through a variety of active learning experiences. Associate teachers support the lead classroom teacher, but students are told that they have two teachers so students view their teachers as equals.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Being fully prepared to receive students at 8:15 am. Hours of work 8:00 - 4:00 pm.
-Providing one-on-one, small group, and whole group instruction as guided by the lead teacher
-Engaging students in active learning experiences around Ventana’s elementary curriculum
-Supporting learning inquiry and active student participation by developing age-appropriate project work through thoughtful reflection on student interests, passions, and dialogues
-Collaborating daily/weekly with co-teachers, specialists, teaching team, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction
-Assist with editing written reports for each student twice per year by specified deadline.
-Facilitating a democratic community through daily Morning Meetings and Closing Circles, classroom meetings, conflict resolution strategies, and a view of the child as ‘competent’ in both solving problems and contributing to solutions
-Implementing classroom management strategies that draw on children’s strengths and participation
-Supervising, as assigned or requested, student unstructured time during recess periods
-Attending weekly Grade Level Team Meetings and Elementary Staff Meetings.
