Plan and facilitate effective, differentiated lessons and in-depth investigations in reading, writing, handwriting, word study, math, science, and social studies
Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play
Assess student learning on an ongoing basis and use this information to inform instruction
Co-plan with teaching colleagues. Work in a cooperative manner with teachers across the school
Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of Lower School programs
Foster a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, and be curious
Practice thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active learning and promote responsibility, self-management, and positive relationships
Work in partnership with students and their families
Maintain frequent contact with families including blog posts, emails, meetings, and informal conversations
Write progress reports and participate in parent/teacher conferences
Attend all faculty and community meetings
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
Supervise students during recess and other non-class times
Develop, plan, and supervise off-campus field experiences
Participate fully in the life of the school
Perform other duties as assigned by the Lower School Head

Experienced teaching reading and writing workshop
Experience with inquiry project-based teaching and learning
Draws from constructivist theories of teaching and learning; student-centered
Skilled with the use of formative and summative assessments
Demonstrates strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
Knows and applies knowledge of current professional literature
Experience with flexible, creative, and aesthetically pleasing classroom design
Willing to contribute regularly to school community activities
Proficient with using technology
