Open Position: Upper School English Language Arts Teacher Reports to: Director of Upper School When Needed: 2021-2022 School Year
Hershey Montessori School is seeking an energetic and dedicated English Language Arts Teacher for grades 9-12 to join our school starting August 2021. Our ideal candidate is passionate about language arts, committed to community, and interested in exploring with students in and out of the classroom. They will have experience teaching Upper School level language arts; enthusiasm for project-based teaching of language arts; integrating language arts into all disciplines; a passion for both mental and physical work; willingness to take training in Montessori pedagogy; and a passion for working with adolescents in a community with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Essential duties/responsibilities: • Teach English Language Arts to grades 9-12 along with book group and writing workshops for 7-8th grade students • Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments and support of individual students • Advising a small group of students (7-10) • Collaboration with other members of the faculty, administration and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary and community-based opportunities that add to the school community • Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate • Actively participates and/or supervises activities outside of the classroom • Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. • Master’s degrees preferred. • AMI Diploma or AMI Adolescent Certificate preferred • Willingness to become certified and invest time into professional development toward Montessori education is expected. • 3 years of experience teaching high school level subjects is a must.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: • Teaching project-based curriculum and integrated subjects is preferred. • A thorough understanding of best practices in teaching and commitment to teaching the whole child. • Support the school’s social, environmental, and entrepreneurial learning opportunities. • Ability and flexibility to use Microsoft Office Suite including the Teams collaboration tool, online meeting and conferencing applications, and operating audio/visual equipment.
