Open Position: Spanish Teacher, Early Learning Center & Elementary Center
Reports to: Director of the Elementary Center

St. Thomas School is seeking a talented, compassionate, and engaging Early Learning and Elementary School Spanish Teacher. Spanish instruction is an integral part of our program in Preschool through 8th Grade. We need an educator who understands best practices in teaching immersion Spanish and who is passionate about teaching children in Preschool – Third Grade.

Under minimal supervision, provides an optimal Spanish immersion style classroom learning environment for students from Preschool through Third Grade.
Teaches classes across multiple early learning and elementary grades
Develops and implements curriculum and unit plans
Collaborates with classroom teachers to create a meaningful and developmentally appropriate Spanish lessons, delivered in partnership with classroom teachers for our youngest students
Leads Early Learning Center Enrichment sessions
Partners closely with the other members of the school’s Spanish Department to foster a cohesive foreign language program
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environment
Works with families and communicates in a clear and supportive manner, including written progress reports and report cards
Stays abreast of current educational research and best practices
Promotes Spanish education within the school community by creating school events, participating in interdisciplinary projects, developing field trips, and building connections with native speakers in local and international communities
Enthusiastically engages in professional development
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all the school’s constituencies
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education, Training & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in early childhood or elementary education, Spanish or related areas from a four-year college or university required
Master’s Degree in elementary education, Spanish, or related areas preferred
3+ years of combined teaching experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Fluency in Spanish
Knowledge of current trends in teaching Spanish in early learning and elementary classrooms
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment using Microsoft Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
