At Bennett Day School, the Atelierista operates the art studio space, an environment inspired by open ended materials and exposure to fine art mediums. In addition to providing children with an opportunity to explore, create, express themselves and share ideas, the Atelierista will also build and enhance the art curriculum at Bennett Day School.
The Art Teacher will have primary responsibility for planning, programming, teaching, evaluating, and providing feedback for all students in the area of art. Bennett Day School provides child-centered learning opportunities and environment for students. The Art Teacher is responsible for establishing relationships with students, encouraging them to communicate respectfully, and to develop their confidence, creative art skills, and enthusiasm for the artistic process. The Art Teacher will also contribute to a cooperative and positive adult working environment. This job requires an adaptive nature, and willingness to build a depthful art program as part of our unique and responsive school experience.
Grade level-specific Art curriculum development
Integrate professional standards of Art education into everyday classroom instruction and curriculum
Collaborate with classroom teachers and additional discipline teachers to plan and implement activities, lessons, and projects throughout the year
Individual student documentation and evaluation
Family communication: blogs, conferences
Professional Development: Wednesday afternoons, ongoing professional development in and out of school, beginning and end of year PD
Participation in family/community evening/weekend events: Curriculum Night, Family Association Meeting and other additional Admissions/Marketing outreach events.
Participation in Morning arrival or dismissal duties as assigned
Participation in self-evaluation and reflection process; individual and team meetings with the Principal
Supervision responsibilities may include: recess, lunch, snack
Responsibilities are not all-inclusive and will include other duties as assigned
Art curriculum and integration development experience
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Comfort using technology as an instructional tool
Collaborative mindset; adept at working with teams, open to new ideas and adaptable
Deep engagement in pedagogical trends, research, and best practices
Commitment to the school’s mission
Experience/professional development in/with special education
Experience in progressive education
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Art, Art History or Art Education or minimum of three year’s experience as an Art teacher in a PK-8 school.
Physical strength to independently lift 15-20 lbs
Fluency in written and oral language in English
Ability to oversee and ensure the safety of children in and out of the classroom
Required immunizations to prevent communicable diseases
