Lake Forest Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Mathematics Teacher to begin in the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. The current mathematics program is both diverse and comprehensive in nature and covers a rigorous pre-algebra curriculum that culminates in either algebra, geometry, or advanced algebra courses. The program also includes an infusion of hands-on activities, integrative science and STEM content, collaborative projects, and thematic units. While the curriculum is already well established, there is a degree of latitude for each teacher to choose age-appropriate methods of instruction as well as room for innovative, supplementary material.
LFCDS, located on a 30-acre campus about 30 miles north of Chicago, Illinois, is a co-educational, independent day school serving 400 students from age 2 through eighth grade. Middle School Mathematics Teacher
Teach four middle school mathematics sections
Work collectively with the other members of the department on curriculum development
Engage in regular goal-setting and curricular integration conversations
Engage in activities that foster and celebrate team unity
Model and help students establish routines and strategies to support executive functioning
Communicate regularly with students and parents about academic progress
Member of the Mathematics Department
Engage in dialogue with other members of the faculty to foster a collaborative spirit
Attend regular department meetings
Plan and revise curriculum as needed
Work as part of the department, ensuring that teamwork, flexibility, sense of humor and creative problem-solving remain important
Member of the Faculty
Serve as an academic advisor
Attend regular team meetings
Collaborate with Head of Upper School to establish professional growth areas of focus
Help to flexibly organize time within the daily schedule
Write narrative progress reports
Perform all non-teaching duties assigned by the Head of Upper School
An ability to broaden student understanding of mathematical applications and build student self-confidence in problem solving
Experience in presenting mathematical content in a dynamic, student-centric way
Comfort and experience with technology and its use in the classroom
Experience in integrating scientific concepts into curriculum
Familiarity with Math in Focus delivery and program could prove beneficial
A master’s degree and/or previous experience teaching middle school social studies
