Catlin Gabel seeks a full-time, elementary homeroom teacher. As a progressive school, we are seeking an experienced, dynamic teacher to embrace whole-child education, inquiry-based practices, educating through experiential learning pedagogies. The ideal candidate will have experience using a variety of teaching methods to support different learning styles and will be interested in teaching the whole spectrum of students to instill gender and racial equity for all.

Competencies • Ability to differentiate instruction. • Understanding of progressive education philosophy and ability to put it into practice • Ability to create and implement an elementary school curriculum using a progressive and constructivist pedagogy • Knowledge, understanding, and successful demonstration of integrating curriculum and providing connectedness for learners • Ability to effectively run a reading workshop, writers’ workshop, and math workshop. • Familiarity with elementary education content/skill standards and developmental continua • Effective classroom management skills, including restorative justice practices • Culturally responsive teaching and communication practices • Ability to create positive, professional relationships with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues • Ability to work as a team member: The ability to problem-solve, compromise, collaborate, be flexible, and take direction when necessary • Proficient with Word, Outlook, relevant classroom software, and Google Suite • Ability to use technology to enhance instruction in developmentally appropriate ways • Clear verbal and written communication skills

Catlin Gabel School is a coeducational, independent day school located on 54 acres in the West Hills neighborhood of Portland, Oregon formed in 1957 by the merger of the Catlin Hillside School, which had been founded as Miss Catlin’s School in 1911, and the Gabel Country Day School, whose roots extend to 1859 with the founding of The Portland Academy.
