R-MA is looking for an Upper School Math and Computer Science Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year who can teach in an ever-changing world.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to teach basic Computer Science courses
Promote digital citizenship and infuse technology meaningfully into instruction
Ability to teach math from Algebra I through Calculus
Experience or an interest in project based learning/inquiry based learning methodologies
Foster positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and other faculty and staff
Use Understanding by Design in course development and foster project-based learning and authentic assessment throughout the curriculum
Uphold high expectations for all students and strive to meet the individual needs of each student
Ability to work in a team-based environment including ability to suggest methods for teacher collaborations, instructional integration, and cross-grade unit development
Provide supervision for evening and weekend activities on and off campus
Mentor young adults
Knowledge, Experience, Education, and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, math, or related field
Minimum of 2 years of Computer Science and/or Math teaching experience marked by pedagogical innovation and best practices
Instruct students on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation and the hardware and the software built on those foundations.
Competency and comfort with Apple operating system, applications, and devices
Cultivate problem-solving skills using real-world scenarios, guiding students to reason abstractly and quantitatively
Student-centered, dynamic educator who uses a variety of instructional approaches
Proven track record of success with student achievement at the Upper School level
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish solid positive working relationships
Ability to exercise sound judgement
Prefer private, boarding school experience
Must be able to mentor in small groups and manage some weekend supervision
Must believe in and support the mission and vision of the Academy

About Randolph-Macon Academy
Founded in 1892, Randolph-Macon Academy is a co-ed boarding and day school for approximately 400 students in grades 6-12. The foundational principles of the Academy are: Knowledge, Leadership, and Character. The Upper School is built on a military (AFJROTC) format; the Middle School is civilian. R-MA is focused on providing strenuous college-prep academics, a structured environment, strong athletics, and a full range of extracurricular activities. The Academy operates the Nation’s only full time high-school flight program.
