We are currently seeking relational, energetic, and growth-minded candidates for a full time Middle School English teacher position for the 2021-2022 school year. Our ideal candidate is a passionate educator with experience and/or specific interest in teaching English, including reading, writing, presenting, and grammar, in sixth grade. Applicants should be personable, creative, flexible, have a genuine desire to work with middle school students in a college prep environment and have a student-focused classroom approach. Candidates must be able to use technology to enhance the classroom experience, use a range of literature and resources that represent diverse experiences across various genres, and demonstrate best practices in the writing process to reach a wide range of learners. Interest and experience in interacting with students outside of the classroom in co-curricular activities including advisory, coaching, and/or elective courses is most desirable.
Teach student-centered English courses that emphasize inquiry and authentic assessment
Develop a curriculum centered on skill-development and content acquisition
Maintain a classroom culture that promotes civil discourse and student engagement
Promote a positive and energetic learning environment while advancing the cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of the students
Teach up to six sections of English and participate in the advisory curriculum
Maintain good communication with students and parents throughout the year as well as during Parent/Teacher conferences
Willingness to collaborate with department members to design innovative curriculum with department and grade-level members
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Bachelors degree in English or Secondary Education, Masters degree preferred in either English or Education
Minimum three years of experience as a Middle/Secondary English teacher
Passionate about working with middle school students, grades 6-8
Committed to creating a student-centered, engaging classroom experience
Willing to use technology through the use of 1:1 student devices
Dynamic, energetic, and able to incorporate lessons and activities that support a highly motivated learning environment
