Swallowtail Waldorf School & Farm is currently hiring a Lead Teacher for our Early Childhood Program for the 2021-22 school year. We are looking for a person both grounded in and inspired by the work of early childhood, who values continuity of care and warmth, and who can prepare the children for first grade.
We are a warm and collaborative community, with an exceptionally dedicated and supportive parent body. Our close-knit Early Childhood team collaborates on aspects of classroom planning such as singing, storytelling, puppetry, and crafting as well as in study and professional development. Our Early Childhood classes spend much of their day outdoors in all weather, and there is ample space at both campuses for gardening work and experiencing the natural world.
We seek candidates who have:
Waldorf teacher training or willingness to be trained and a Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience with Lifeway’s and RIE methods a plus.
Experience working in an early childhood environment and an understanding of child development.
Ability to support the unfolding of the individual child and nurture development through the rhythms of the classroom.
Keen observation skills and a contemplative or meditative practice.
A love for the natural world and a willingness to be outdoors in any type of weather.
Confidence and personal initiative in class management and curriculum development.
Collaborative way of being both within the early childhood group and the larger faculty and staff.
A commitment to the school’s work in the area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

About Swallowtail Waldorf School & Farm
Swallowtail Waldorf School serves students from Preschool through Grade 8. Our two campuses are located at the intersection of rural Oregon farmland and the Portland suburbs. Our main campus is on 6 acres, which also includes plenty of trees, a very large field, playground, covered basketball court, and early childhood play yard. Our farm campus includes areas dedicated to biodynamic agriculture as well as native forest, meadow areas, and wetlands bordered by a river and pond.
