We seek to hire a highly qualified individual for a full-time position teaching Visual Art and Spatial Art. The ideal candidate is excited to grow the depth and breadth of the Spatial Art program at our Upper School campus by delivering and developing curricula as well as rethinking, refining and maintaining the Sculpture Lab which includes upkeep of inventory of supplies and tools as well as repair and cleaning of all machines, including laser cutter, kiln, saws, pottery wheels, etc.
The current courses on offer in this program are: Ceramics, Sculpture, Glass, AP Studio Art 3D, Honors Directed Portfolio and Architecture. In addition to teaching a collection of 3D-based course offerings that align to the candidate’s strengths, the Spatial Arts teacher is responsible for teaching multiple sections of the freshman art course, Study of Visual Art. The candidate is responsible for the care, and exhibition of their students’ works on campus as well as collaborating with the other Visual Arts faculty on planning and creating art exhibitions throughout the year.
The ideal candidate maintains a studio art practice, is active in their creative community and is excited to exchange ideas with other faculty. As the candidate is active in their creative community, so too are they expected to be active in the creative community at Harker. The Spatial Art teacher, like all other teachers at Harker, will be given a group of students to advise as they make their way through all four years of high school. The candidate’s work with this group as well as their positive and thoughtful presence in assemblies, events and arts activities on campus is essential in fostering a flourishing creative force in our student body.

Has at minimum, a bachelor's degree in subject area; MFA preferred
Has three+ years of teaching experience in relevant subject area and appropriate grade level division
Has an ongoing studio art practice or equivalent
Has ability to create and communicate well-organized, meaningful, and creative lesson plans that incorporate teaching strategies in a thoughtful manner to further and maximize student learning
