We are seeking a dynamic Spanish teacher to join our middle school team. The ideal candidate will infuse creativity and fun into their classrooms and understand how to provide rigor and extended learning experiences within the context of a progressive environment. Providing differentiated and extended learning experiences is essential. The goal of our Spanish language program is to graduate students with solid Spanish language proficiency, and with a passion and ability to meaningfully engage with people of many cultural backgrounds. The successful candidate will provide support for our Spanish speaking families, including translation (written and verbal), regular outreach and relationship building, and weekly differentiated curricular experiences for Heritage students, both in and out of the classroom. This position also includes teaching quarterly elective classes and is scheduled five days per week.
Create developmentally appropriate progressive curricula, establish a nurturing and engaging classroom environment for all students, and work collaboratively with a colleagues
Develop and implement a discrete and integrated Spanish language program that follows a developmental progression and includes, but is not limited to, grammar and vocabulary, conjugation, Spanish culture, and participation in multilingual communities.
Design lessons which model encourage inquiry, active participation, real-world engagement, and cultural competency
Foster a warm and inclusive classroom community
Differentiate lessons and activities to meet the academic and socio-emotional needs of all learners
Establish relationships with our Spanish speaking families and provide appropriate enrichment and support to their children
Observe and evaluate student’s work and progress, providing regular feedback to students. Instruct students both individually and in group, adapting teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs, interests, and learning styles
Meet with parents/guardians and advisory teachers to discuss children’s progress and maximize student learning
Perform other school duties including chaperoning field trips, performing duties (such as carpool), attending meetings, and school events

BA or MA and at least 3 years Spanish teaching at the MS level required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Native or near-Native level Spanish fluency and understanding of language acquisition and lesson design
Familiar with best practices in teaching world languages
Commitment to professional development, a growth mindset, social justice and multicultural education
Experience in collegial collaboration related to planning, instruction, and assessment directly connected to student learning
