Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Secondary Education, the intermediate school principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school. An effective intermediate school principal will facilitate students, teachers, parents and the local community in building a school environment that maximizes student learning, academic performance and positive social growth.
The Principal has direct leadership responsibilities for instruction and curriculum; evaluation of site staff; budgeting, guidance, media and library services. Shared leadership responsibilities include student body activities, athletic and extracurricular activities, booster clubs, and community leadership. The Principal is accountable for selection, assignment, and evaluation of staff, budgeting, plant management, dissemination of District policies, rules and regulations, curriculum development and leadership, staff development, and assessment programs.
Appropriate California Administrative Credential
Appropriate training and/or prior administrative experience
A minimum of 5 years teaching experience
Learning theory and techniques of instruction to support effective implementation of common core state instructional standards
Common Core State Standards and Curriculum Frameworks along with instructional methods of an exemplary intermediate school
Quality supervision, effective instruction, models of teaching, and instructional strategies
Use technology to support instruction and other functions throughout the school
Primary tenets of a Professional Learning Community (PLC)
Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS)
Theories of Adolescent Development
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) as it relates to adolescents
Training in interest-based, collaborative decision-making
California Standards for the Teaching Profession

Design, develop, implement and evaluate curriculum and instruction
Provide instructional leadership and high quality staff development

Additional Salary Information: Salary based on 2019-2020 Salary Schedule.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) includes nearly 59 square miles and is comprised of the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Corona del Mar, California.
