Lower School Elementary (first and second grade) lead Teacher
Telluride Mountain School is an innovative learning community where strong academics, enriching experiences, and meaningful relationships develop confident, curious students who passionately contribute to the world. Telluride Mountain School is a pre-K through twelfth grade independent school of 130 students located in Telluride, CO, in the heart of San Juan mountain range.
The First and Second grade lead teacher will teach and otherwise support multi-age students in a hybrid Montessori classroom with hands-on materials, an enriching curriculum, and outdoor/experiential educational experiences. The lead teacher is assisted in Montessori specific instruction as well as in additional classes including Spanish, Art, Music, and PE by a team of teachers and classroom assistants.
Report to Head of School
Implement student-centered pedagogy and TMS’s research-based elements of effective teaching
Plan dynamic units framed by learning targets and learning outcomes with the team
Participate in the Experiential and Outdoor Education Programs, including but not limited to Fall and Spring Trips
Collaborate in grade level and department level teams to refine curricular goals
Maintain consistent student records, as required by TMS
Demonstrate enthusiasm for work in all settings
Model school core values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Love of Learning
Collaborate and work positively as a member of a team
Classroom teaching experience preferred.
An undergraduate degree or graduate degree in related fields of Education is preferred.
An AMS or AMI certificate at the Elementary level is preferred but not essential.
Communication skills and commitment to teamwork are expected.
