The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time English Teacher for the 2021-22 school year. We are a problem-based, interdisciplinary day school looking for candidates interested in shaping an evolving English curriculum for our 9th - 12th grade students. Position Summary: Our program emphasizes the development of skills and the opportunity for students to cultivate their curiosity through a wide range of choices. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach core English courses;
Teach a variety of 11th - 12th grade “core choice” classes, which are single-term courses focused on advanced reading, writing, literary theory, and literary analysis;
Teach multi-grade level electives, the design and scope of which are informed by teacher and student interests;
Design and develop a skills-based curriculum with a team of Humanities teachers
Teach one five-day “Intensive” course
Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team
Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors
Our teachers are engaged in the work of designing curriculum and creating a school culture alongside our students. The ideal candidate will be inquisitive, interested in educational design, engaged by Stone’s mission and creative ethos, highly energetic, and committed to working with adolescents. Ideal candidates will have at least three years teaching experience in secondary and/or college-level English, and the academic background to teach in interdisciplinary courses. Candidates should be capable of developing in their students the kinds of sophisticated writing and reading skills needed for success in college.
