Almaden Country Day School (ACDS) is seeking a middle school math teacher. Courses include 6th grade math, 7th grade math, and math electives in an academically rigorous curriculum with small class sizes. Math classes will typically be 10-15 students and electives are less than 15. The curriculum is both exploratory and problem-based. Students work in teams and have opportunities to work on their own as well. This teacher may also facilitate student meetings in conjunction with a Student Advocacy program (similar to advisory) and oversee a homeroom. The Math teacher also helps with the organization and chaperoning of weeklong class trips.
Additionally, the Math program (along with the rest of the middle school disciplines at ACDS) engages students in collaborative and independent projects, so the successful candidate will be both familiar and comfortable with project-based learning.
ACDS teachers are expected to differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of student needs and readiness levels. Key to success at Almaden Country Day School is an understanding and appreciation of children’s developmental stages and a deliberate focus on building relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
The successful applicant will value a cooperative learning environment in which colleagues work together for the benefit of the students. He or she will demonstrate cultural competency in his or her teaching, teamwork, and leadership. He or she will provide evidence of high personal and professional standards, communication ability, and eagerness to grow as a teacher.
Finalists may be asked to teach a demonstration lesson, to participate in a faculty-led interview, and to provide a writing sample.
Interviews for open positions begin immediately and remain open until filled.
