Bay Ridge Prep, a progressive, student-centered, K-12 independent school located in Brooklyn, New York, is seeking a highly qualified English Teacher to join its Upper School (grades 9-12) faculty for the 2021-2022 academic year. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally well-versed in English Language and Composition, will have a passion for the literary arts, and will excel in their ability to clearly and effectively communicate content and concepts to student learners – moving beyond classroom related activities and demonstrating how English is applicable, relevant, and transformational in today’s world.

About the position:
Bay Ridge Prep seeks a talented, dynamic educator for its Upper School English program. The ideal candidate will be well versed in both literature and composition, understanding the dynamics and endemic qualities necessary to transform an English classroom into an imaginative, creative, evocative, and rigorous learning space. Applicants should possess a well-informed understanding of both traditional and avant-garde approaches to thinking about and working with the English language and form.
Teaching four or five academic courses. Additional responsibilities include advising/moderating an after school club or activity, attending weekly faculty meetings and participating in weekly planning-meetings with other English teachers. Finally, the candidate should be expected to support other school-wide supervisory duties.
B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college or university
Masters degree or PhD preferred
Previous teaching experience in a private/independent school
Capacity for teaching students at different learning levels
Ability to teach students with learning differences
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
Medical, Dental and Vision insurance coverage paid for by the school.
403B Retirement Plan with an annual contribution by the school equal to 3% of salary plus a matching contribution equal up to an additional 4% of salary based on the employee’s additional contributions.
Partial reimbursement via insurance plan for gym, fitness club/class membership (subject to the policies of and review by school insurance provider).
