The Potomac School seeks a part-time (50%) Upper School History Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Adhere to supplied lesson plans; follow curriculum guidelines and requirements.
Teach students using various teaching methods such as lecture, demonstration, Socratic debate, student-led presentations, and visual aids.
Teach assigned curriculum, correct assignments, administer assessments, evaluate students’ progress, inform parents of progress.
Keep attendance records; maintain discipline in the classroom.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings and teacher training workshops.
Be organized, dependable, patient and creative.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with experience teaching United States History in the Upper School.
Ability to communicate, motivate, and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student achievement.
Enthusiasm and joy for working with students.
