The Graduate School has an outstanding opportunity for Director of Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP).
The Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) in the Graduate School is committed to serving the needs of historically underserved graduate students, especially BIPOC students, to enhance equity and graduate student success. For over 50 years, GO-MAP has cultivated an inclusive academic, educational, and social environment in which all students can learn and thrive while attending the University of Washington. Working closely with graduate students, faculty, and staff, GO-MAP has strengthened and maintained campus diversity, equity, inclusion and justice while enhancing academic opportunities for historically underserved graduate students, and has encouraged and directly supported scholarship and research that explores cultural diversity.
This position requires a strategic leader who will develop and direct initiatives that support the success of historically underserved graduate students across the three UW campuses. The Director of GO-MAP will report to the Associate Dean for Equity & Justice in Graduate Programs.
DEIJ Strategic Leadership
Establish the long-term vision and growth strategy for GO-MAP and lead the program in that direction. Develop and implement evidence based DEIJ initiatives to increase recruitment and improve retention of historically underserved graduate students. Identify and research innovative programming and emerging trends that impact historically underserved graduate students. Oversee development of communications/marketing strategies for GO-MAP in alignment with Graduate School overall goals and communications. Develop metrics to assess the impact of initiatives. Advise the Dean and other Graduate School leadership and campus partners on areas of success and those needing improvement. Partner with the Office of Equity & Justice in Graduate Programs on DEIJ initiatives that span both offices. Partner with the Advancement team to strategize around fundraising efforts while expanding and cultivating a pool of alumni, donors and community constituents.
Financial Resourcing Strategy
Formulate, develop and implement the annual operating budget for programming. Management and oversight of the plan for distributing over $2 million of fellowship and awards funding provided by GO-MAP annually. Assess financial allocations and make data driven recommendations for improvement.
Manage a team of professional staff and graduate student employees providing daily operational support for graduate programs and students. Coach, mentor, guide, and develop GO-MAP staff and graduate student employees as they provide excellent service to graduate programs and students. Recruit and hire staff that drive excellence and push the organization to be better. Create a highly collaborative team that works together and with other units in the Graduate School at a deep level to share knowledge, expertise, and ask for help.
Consulting and Advising Campus Graduate Programs
Identify, develop and prescribe best practices for providing a nurturing learning environment for graduate student success. Advise campus graduate program in partnership with the Office of Equity & Justice in Graduate Programs and Office of Graduate Student Affairs on best practices in developing and sustaining and environment that attracts and supports historically underserved graduate students.
Collaborate with Graduate School Associate Deans, Directors and staff, University committees, students and departments to advance the University’s commitment to DEIJ in graduate education. Develop and sustain a robust network to promote Alumni engagement. Represents GO-MAP on a national stage via conference presentations, and other forms of national leadership.

Master's degree in a related field of study.
A minimum of five years of professional, in-depth experience in, and a detailed understanding of, complex and intersectional issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice as they relate to the student experience and the workplace.
Experience developing and facilitating diversity, equity, inclusion and justice-related operating plans within higher education or related context.
Experience leading and managing staff and student employees.
Knowledge and service with national organizations supporting diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a variety of audiences.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience with fundraising, supporting fundraising efforts or working with donors to raise funding for student fellowships and scholarships.
The person in this position should possess skills to present in front of large audiences and an ability to effectively lead large committees with people in high-level positions in addition to small focus groups, both of which often include faculty.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
