The Harley School seeks a full-time Upper School art teacher to start in September of 2021. Primary responsibility is for teaching five sections of art (mostly 2-D), to students in grades 9-12. Courses may include Drawing & Painting, AP Studio Art (Drawing and 3-D), Portfolio Prep, Art History, Ceramics, Sculpture, and Art 9. Additional expectations include—but are not limited to—academic advising, chaperoning, extracurricular mentoring and supervision, and committee work.
The ideal candidate will:
Have a passion for drawing and painting;
Have teaching experience, either at the secondary or college level;
Take a contemporary approach to the teaching of art;
Have experience as a working artist;
Possess an appropriate undergraduate degree (Master’s preferred);
Be familiar with independent school culture;
Promote and welcome open, dynamic, and critical discussion to engage students in self-expression and the creation of meaningful design.
