Pine Point School is seeking a Lower School science teacher for grades K-5 who understands the cognitive and developmental needs of young children and who has the ability to differentiate instruction. The successful candidate will have the ability to guide student growth in science, including exploration, discovery, critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, research, and reporting. We seek knowledgeable candidates who love science exploration, have experience with young children, understand their needs, and enjoy being in their presence. Candidates should be able to collaborate with colleagues in a progressive learning environment and be dedicated to the Pine Point School mission of helping students engage in developing a strong academic and ethical core, a lifelong curiosity about their world, and a commitment to reaching solutions creatively, collaboratively, and compassionately.
Instruction is provided through a collaborative, active, and engaging curriculum focused on science and problem solving through collaboration. The candidate must have a commitment to integrating science with the curriculum across the grades and have a willingness to work with a dynamic and creative team. The position includes writing report cards/comments, conferencing with parents, and maintaining consistent communication with colleagues and parents of students. Participation in our school environment such as advising, coaching, leading co-curricular and after-school programs, and field trips is expected.
Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes:
Bachelor’s Degree required; a degree in Elementary or Science Education is preferred
A minimum of three years of elementary teaching experience is preferred
Experience teaching science to kindergarten through fifth-grade students
Experience and comfort with hands-on, inquiry-based, and project-based integrated science teaching in collaboration with grade-level teachers
Ability to teach in person and remotely
Experience and comfort with managing collaborative learning groups
Strong oral and written communication skills
Evidence of the ability to engage, motivate, assess, and develop student learning
Experience and comfort with technology
Warmth of personality, energy, a sense of humor, and a willingness and interest in participating in other aspects of the school community
