The heart of Whittle School & Studios’ philosophy is our belief that all children are naturally curious, born to be great thinkers, and form meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and community. The Elementary Homeroom Teacher’s primary responsibility is the support of the social/emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child in alignment with Whittle School & Studios’ mission and vision.? Through individual and group projects, our core courses connect knowledge to problem-solving, presentation, and performance—making learning “sticky,” or more permanent. As part of the Lower School team, which focuses on students grades 2-5, the Elementary Homeroom Teacher collaborates with subject area specialists (Performing and Visual Arts, Music, Wellness and Physical Education, Humanities, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, etc.) to design interdisciplinary projects, personalize learning experiences to meet children’s current understanding of literacy and numeracy, and incorporate student interests.
