Position Description: The Upper School Art teacher will be responsible for all aspects of the Art curriculum for grades 6, 7, & 8. Parent communication, grade reports and other duties associated with the daily education of the upper school students. The Upper School Art teacher reports directly to the head of upper school. All BPC faculty are responsible for implementing best-practices in education, with good humor, an unwavering commitment to children, and compassion. Black Pine Circle School’s upper school faculty work cooperatively with upper school teachers to create inter-disciplinary projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Art to grades 6, 7 & 8.
Develop curriculum that incorporates many different forms of media, (including clay, metal, paper, fabric, paint, etc).
Understand and explain a variety of techniques for creating art.
Know and apply elements of design and principles of art.
Organize the art room environment and instruct students on proper use of materials.
Rotate art displays throughout the school during the year.
Plan and present art work at the annual all school Art Exhibit and other Open House events.
Maintain an “open” art studio for students during regular school hours.
Perform any other regular daily duties as needed and assigned by the administration.
Teaching credential or equivalent experience with demonstrated focus in art
Experience teaching middle school grades
Love and appreciation for middle school students
Passion for Art and for teaching
