This is a one-year part-time position primarily within the Middle School reporting to the Head of Middle School.
The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, the school is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and compassionate participation in the world. The Middle School has 200 students in grades 6-8, and a faculty of 30.

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of one year part-time Spanish teacher starting August 16th, 2021 to support our Middle and Upper School program. The ideal candidate will:
Have experience teaching Spanish to middle school-aged students (Grades 6, 7, 8) and command of appropriate L2 strategies
Have experience with literature-based instruction to upper-school aged students (grades 9-12)
Have experience in immersion-based teaching (100% target language) and appropriate L2 strategies
Demonstrate the ability to execute lessons using authentic literature, games, and songs
Demonstrate knowledge of Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) techniques and engage multiple modalities so that students can retain information
An ability to also teach French would be wonderful.
Successful applicants should possess the following qualifications:
Superior level of proficiency in Spanish
Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor
Excellent speaking and writing skills
3-5 years teaching experience preferred
BA in Education or related field; (MA in Spanish, Foreign Language instruction or a related field not required but preferred)
Knowledge of French would be a wonderful addition
