Reporting directly to the CTO of Engineering, the incumbent will act as the senior application architect, programmer, and data acquisition manager for the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Division of Physical Sciences with a broad scope and complexity. These responsibilities will directly support the mission and business-critical operations of both divisions and will be built to scale across Academic Affairs and potentially more broadly across the entire campus. The incumbent will make recommendations to senior management and identify current strategic goals related to the adaptation of Enterprise Systems Refresh (ESR) changes including data acquisition, gap tools, and future state applications.
This position acts as a functional leader and technical expert in each stage of the software life cycle for back-end and customer-facing application development: planning, requirements gathering, design, specification, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Participates fully in the management of the operation of the current production database and web services. Liaison with the Production Computing team to assess software and hardware requirements to support the integration of new technologies, support existing applications, upgrade systems as needed, and secure from intrusion.
In addition to bearing responsibility for the successful provisioning of robust and scalable production databases, applications, data acquisition, and web services to Engineering and Physical Sciences, as a senior member of the Office of Engineering Computing (OEC) this position plays a key role in advising the OEC Director (CTO), Jacobs School leadership, and other campus units in terms of strategic and technical planning.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience in data processing, application lifecycle management, database management, and project management. Seven or more years of application development experience related to business operations, process tracking, data analysis, and decision management in a large-sized production environment.
Advanced knowledge of secure software development Strong understanding of secure software development principles and familiarity with web application security guidelines. Experience in developing a security framework to secure applications used by a wide range of users, including students, faculty, business users in multiple organizations as well as users off-campus.
Highly advanced skills associated with software specification, design, modification, implementation and deployment of large-scale scope. Experience in creating multi-tiered web architecture from scratch using open source frameworks. Able to plan for software evolutionary paths and ensure the architecture is effective, secure, sustainable, and robust by applying advanced design principles and methodologies.
Excellent project leadership and management skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask, be able to evaluate workload, available resources, and adjust schedules, priorities, as required. Ability to plan and organize day-to-day workload on short and long-term projects.
Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
Experience in translating highly complex business problems into effective solutions that are functional, simple, and intuitive to use. Proven ability to take initiatives to identify opportunities for business process improvements with innovation and creativity.
