Purpose: The ESD Lower School Chaplain responsibilities include: Daily chapel services (excluding Eucharist Wednesdays once a month) and pastoral care at the Episcopal School of Dallas Lower School, including students, families, faculty and staff. The position is part time, M-F from 7:30-11:30, with occasional after school meetings detailed below. The Chaplain works cooperatively with the Senior Chaplain to provide pastoral care and support to the wider ESD community. The Chaplain is a role model, teacher, and ambassador. The Chaplain leads a daily chapel for students in grades PK-4, leads a daily developmentally appropriate chapel service for the Beginner (3 year old) class, teaches one daily 20-minute fourth grade religion class, works with Lower School Leadership in developing curriculum as needed, and serves on the Episcopal Identity Team.
Be a lay minister, Christian educator, and/or ordained priest in the Episcopal Church.
Have a minimum of 3 years parish experience, with school chaplaincy experience preferred.
Possess demonstrated preaching expertise to young children.
Experience with Godly Play preferred.
Possess excellent knowledge of the developmental needs of young children as learners.
Demonstrate an understanding of the theories and practicalities involved in providing pastoral care to young children and their families, in the context of the school community.
Have the ability to apply religious teaching to the lives of students and faculty.
Demonstrate the ability to express the Episcopalian faith openly in ways that are open to, and inclusive of, the various religious and cultural beliefs and practices present in the ESD community.
Have excellent collaboration and team-building skills.
Be self-motivated, flexible, and a good problem-solver.
Possess excellent communication, listening, and organizational skills.
Technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in using modern laptop computers, tablets, software, and display equipment.
