National Cathedral School seeks an interim teacher for a one-year appointment grade 6 science beginning August 2021. Qualified candidates will possess aptitude in teaching a variety of science topics, have a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation and experience with designing and implementing a STEM curriculum for students in upper elementary and/or middle school grades. Experience in curriculum development and assessment is required, as the department is engaged in curriculum review. Candidates are expected to have a willingness and ability to use differentiated instruction in the classroom and work collaboratively with the grade level team. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
NCS science teachers utilize a student-centered pedagogy and a laboratory-based science curriculum that makes extensive use of technology. Teachers are expected to be on campus from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. Responsibilities include teaching, serving as a homeroom teacher for a group of 14-16 students, attending regular department, division, and faculty meetings, eating lunch with students and supervising dismissal and play times on a rotating basis, and working closely and collaboratively with grade level colleagues. Additional duties may be assigned. Salaries are competitive, based on experience and include a full benefits package including professional development.
